Therapist Match

Finding a match with a therapist that meets your needs

By Jeni Gentry

Making the decision to go to therapy is a big step towards improving your mental and emotional health. Unfortunately, taking the step of finding a therapist that can help you on this journey can feel like a leap! How do you even know where to start? We recently added a new feature on our new website that walks you through a set of questions to help you determine just that. Here are some of the questions that are asked and things to consider when you’re looking for a good match!

Why are you seeking support?:
-Perinatal challenges
-Major life changes
-Grief/Loss
-Parenting challenges
-Anxiety or depression

How are you feeling? What are your current symptoms?:
-Irritable or restless?
-Difficulty focusing?
-Sad or hopeless?
-Loss of interest in activities?
-Changes in appetite?

Signs of a good therapist match:
-Feeling heard and validated
-Open communication
-Therapist understands your specific challenges
-Therapist specializes in your area of concern

Who should you talk to?
If you are considering therapy due to any of the reasons above, it is important that you meet with someone who has the qualifications and relevant experience to help you. Meeting with a licensed clinician can ensure that they have the training to provide you adequate support. For example, if you are seeking support for perinatal challenges, meeting with a clinician who is certified in perinatal mental health (PMH-C) can ensure they have the knowledge of the challenges of this particular season of life.
